A very dominant performance as the young diamonds ran out 4-0 winners on a very hot afternoon.
The game got off to the best possible start with Jake Munt nodding in the first goal of the game, and the season, after only 4 minutes. The rest of the first half passed in very scrappy fashion as both teams found it difficult to find space on the small pitch, however Diamonds were unlucky not to be 2-0 up as their 'keeper pulled out a top draw save to keep Harry Underwood's shot from finding the top corner, and the back-line rarely looked threatened.
It took until 10 minutes in to the second half for the second goal to come and make the game that bit more comfortable when Sam Bertram found himself with space on the six-yard line to smash home from the corner. With a fantastic display of passing and moving and keeping the possession, Earls Barton where starting to tire and it was no surprise when substitute Callum Monaghan tricked his way down the right wing and cross for Chris Newman to tap in the back post. With a penalty saved by the Barton 'keeper, it was a Connor Hislop free-kick that found the bottom right hand corner that got Diamonds the 4th goal they deserved.
Overall, a fantastic start to the season with some excellent football with the lads looking comfortable in possession and moved the ball around nicely. It was good to see around 50 people in attendance, and will hope for the same when we play Weekley Rovers next sunday.

Well done Rob - good stuff.
I watched the first half of the u14s and they were four-up and looking impressive when I left to go and see second half of u17s, who were two-down when I got there and came back to draw 2-2!
