Programmes.

Would it be possible for the squad/player numbers to be listed in the programme against their names? Somebody asked me who a player was and I was playing Poirot.
You're knocked out with who I am,
Look at you now, you're all in my hands.

At this level there are no dedicated shirt squad numbers. Our starting team is 2-11 plus the goalkeepers number so it would be impossible to list these in the match day programme. Some one asked yesterday if a printed team sheet could be produced but there is insufficient time after the manager decides and declares his starting XI to print out sheets.
The easiest thing would be to write the number of the starting XI against the listed players names in the programme when John Gregory reads it out at 2.50pm. ;)

thats a good idea Trek, we have given the players squad numbers but they are already out of date with some leaving and others arriving, players seem to move very quickly in this league!

Its always subject to change of course, the regulars like Alfie, Deven, Hopey etc have worn the number in every game, but for Wiz and Dent I notice they've worn different numbers already this season. Though I guess they could do what Olney did in their programme and just list the line up and numbers of previous game.

I'm just going to make an effort to listen out for the line up announcement every home game, though in places like Olney without a PA, its not as easy as that!

Surely squad numbers, for UCL registration purposes, have no relationship to shirt numbers! Fans who have been used to watching BSP football need to realise this.
Years ago a manager would commit his starting selection earlier in the week so it could be included in the printed programme and any changes to that would be read out over the PA shortly before kickoff. I still have programmes from the 50's and 60's with biro amendments to the starting teams. ;)

We are still thinking about the possibility of creating and printing a team sheet once the office is up and running - although we'd need to charge something for them to make it worth the time / effort / stress of doing so given the unpredictability of getting hold of the team line-ups.

Do people think we get many takers ?

I think we would, Tony. I was fielding questions on this matter in the Peter Ebdon stand during the first half and the point was made that people would pay. I explained that even our Secretary didn't know Starms starting XI before 2pm when I was talking to him in the Bar.

If there is a budding graphics designer amongst us, would they like to have a go at designing a team sheet template. It would need to have team and competition logos as well as room for match details, officials and match sponsors - and be compatible with MS Word to allow the team names to be pasted in without reformatting (not as easy as it sounds).

Corby Town print off team sheets before games and sell them in their club shop for 20p. I always get one as I like to know who i'm watching, and afterall, what's 20p nowadays?

I went to a pre-season game at Faversham Town last season and they had hand written 4 or 5 team sheets and stuck them up around the ground, which is also a good idea IMO although not as convenient if your mates are asking you who's who mid-game.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....
