Pressure.
This time last season I was randomly looking for something to do or even somewhere to watch football on a Saturday afternoon. This year all has come good and I absolutely love the fact that on a Saturday afternoon I can watch football with some of my good mates and enjoy the banter/beer. We are a virgin team that in my opinion will do very well to finish in the top 6 this season with a half decent cup run.
So why am I reading on here that we have all but blown our season because we (although still unbeaten) have drawn 3 games. We have dominated all those three games and have come away very unlucky to have not taken all 3 points, but a point was won at each game through hard work and dedication by the players.
Why are certain forum posters putting pressure on the players that are giving their best at every opportunity? We will NEVER win EVERY game, yet as soon as we don't its all over in some eyes.
Just my opinion folks.

Re: Pressure.
I'm just about to fill mine - purely medicinal you understand to help nurture my man flu ;)
I think it just shows a healthy keeness to want to progress and I think the players will handle the pressure well, as I said in an earlier post, they've come to the wrong club if they want a nice quiet, middle of the road kind of life
I just think in their own keeness to perform well and get positive results they've got a bit anxious in front of goal, they've snatched at chances, but it'll come as it finally did on Tuesday. Every club will drop points, we've just got to keen in the hunt and see what happens at the business end of the season - titles and promotions aren't won in October, as we have well seen in the past
I'm loving every second of this season and in all honesty I started it with no wild expectations of where we'd finish up. Of course I want to win it, or at least gain promotion, but we have no divine right to expect it. Its an old football cliche, but I'm taking each game as it comes.
Edit: mine is a nice glass of Southern Comfort Bob !!

Quite right, I think some people believe the shite put out by other clubs in this league that if we don't win every game we've somehow failed.rudolph_hucker wrote:This time last season I was randomly looking for something to do or even somewhere to watch football on a Saturday afternoon. Re: Pressure.
Would you really be happy with 6th? We've got some really talented lads in our squad that could be getting games at a much higher level, we shouldn't even be entertaining the thought of finishing 6th in UCL Div One! If you believe what you read in the (unofficial) UCL Magazine, Starmer will be getting a smacked botty from Ralph if we don't get promoted. ;)rudolph_hucker wrote:we will do very well to finish in the top 6 this season.
I take your point about people going OTT, i'm as guilty as anybody of that and often write in the heat of the moment (it's more fun that way ;) ), but I wouldn't say we were putting pressure on players, if players choose to read this forum then that's their choice and playing for a club with a fanbase like ours i'm afraid a bit of debate around their performances comes with the territory. You don't have to agree with them, but that is what a forum is for afterall, it would be a bit dull if all we did was blow smoke up each others arses. Thankfully nobody is going to games and heckling players and I'm sure none of us ever would, the sort of thing that used to happen to the likes of Greg Pearson and Alex Hay when many of the glory hunters were still knocking around - now that's pressure!
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

Re: Pressure.
I would be extremely, extremely disappointed if we finished 6th. Taylor, Wizz, McDonald, Hope, Newman, McBride, Morgan, this isn't a side that should be finishing 6th!rudolph_hucker wrote:We are a virgin team that in my opinion will do very well to finish in the top 6 this season with a half decent cup run.

OK 3rd at worst but isn't that just putting more pressure on??? ;)

Re: Pressure.
I agree, I've found some of the criticism on OTT at times, we're putting unnecessary pressure on a team that's still ultimately only played several competitive games and while I'd love us to go straight up, its definitely not the end of the world if we don't this season, just look at AFC Wimbledon, you could call them the model phoenix/fan owned club with what they've achieved, yet even with their far larger fanbase they still didn't go straight up in their first season at step 5.rudolph_hucker wrote:This time last season I was randomly looking for something to do or even somewhere to watch football on a Saturday afternoon. And to be honest while I know its early days, judging by results so far I'd say the top 2 will be Oadby and Sileby, with us finishing top 5, things can change of course, but not sure we can compete with these 2 this season, but if that is the case then I really think next season will be our year with them out the way. Whatever happens, there's some exciting times ahead of us, what I really love about the new club is already we've got plenty of fantastic memories (i.e. U18's cup win, late goal at Olney, Rushden & Higham etc.) despite only being just over a year old, it really is ridiculous that anyone would be negative about our club right now, we have so much to be happy about and I don't recall ever being as enthusiastic about rdfc, for example, I never used to bother with league cup or county cup games but with afc I want to go to them all!

totally agree, it's been fantastic to actually go to a Saturday game, knowing that it actually counts.
I have had so much fun this season.............I learned a lot from last year, for which I'm grateful.
Also, we must remember that there will be a re-structuring of the leagues next season, which could mean us playing in Norwich next season? 8-) 8-)
