Re: Latest vase Odds
Yes, Haydn. Same odds from BetVictor that I posted up a couple of days ago on the Ashington match thread. ;)
Last year's Vase winners Dunston UTS are longer odds than us to again win the trophy this season and they unfortunately had their seated stand burnt down on Monday evening.

Disastrous for any club at this level, they'll probably have to rely on local donations for the repairs. And good to see, the bookies are being more realistic this time, those odds sound about right, big name or not we can't expect to go to a good team in the strongest step 5 league and win comfortably, if at all, would be delighted if manage to get a replay tbh.

Re: Latest vase Odds
I read a report about the fire yesterday. The players were training up to 7.30 pm Monday evening and by 8.15pm the fire brigade had been called out so they suspect the t***s responsible were waiting for the players to leave. Shocking.
Dunston, incidentally, is the area of Newcastle from where Paul Gascoigne hails.

Re: Latest vase Odds
The winners of the Vase for the last few years have mostly been from up the north east, so must have summat it their water up there!!!
Obviously they have some very good sides up in that league.
The bookies think it,s going to be a close game from the odds, so it,s going to be very interesting to see how you guys get on.

Re: Latest vase Odds
I may be wrong but I think the fact many clubs don't apply for promotion in that league for financial/travelling reasons is a reason why its so strong, I imagine there's a handful of clubs in that league that are easily good enough for step 4, but apart from Darlo of course just don't want to move up the pyramid. Yet despite the lack of ambition they still manage decent crowds though, Whitley Bay get crowds of 4-500!

Must be a bit boring for those 4-500 fans.Olly wrote:I may be wrong but I think the fact many clubs don't apply for promotion in that league for financial/travelling reasons is a reason why its so strong, I imagine there's a handful of clubs in that league that are easily good enough for step 4, but apart from Darlo of course just don't want to move up the pyramid. IF we get through I think we'll jump another place in the odds, to 3rd. (Assuming the top two don't falter) This is a statement game, I'm really looking forward to it.

My thoughts exactly, fair to say I wouldn't be best pleased if it was us in their position deciding we don't want to go up, promotion and moving up the leagues is one of the best things about supporting a non league/outside of the PL club and of course I wouldn't go as far as to say I'd stop supporting the club in that position considering we didn't even have a club to support last year, but I'd certainly be less enthusiastic in my support if we just decided we weren't interested in going any higher than step 5, as it is a fantastic feeling knowing your club will play at a higher level next season (though admittedly not one I've experience with Diamonds yet!)Sara Pascoe wrote:Must be a bit boring for those 4-500 fans.Olly wrote:I may be wrong but I think the fact many clubs don't apply for promotion in that league for financial/travelling reasons is a reason why its so strong, I imagine there's a handful of clubs in that league that are easily good enough for step 4, but apart from Darlo of course just don't want to move up the pyramid. It is still slightly confusing their lack of ambition though, yes they'd lose the potential lucrative Vase run and Wembley trips and if they went up travelling costs would go up but I don't think there can be that much of a difference between Evo-Stik Div 1 north and the NL really, they still have to travel cross country to Penrith in the NL. And have they not seen the potential increase in crowds clubs can get with the momentum you can get from promotion or 2, cause if one of the better NL teams went up I think they'd have a chance of back to back promotions cause the difference between NL Divison 1 and the level above can't be much.

Re: Latest vase Odds
Non-League attendances in the North East at step 1 aren't the best. Gateshead are currently in 10th place in the BSP but only have an average home attendance this season of 631.
