Shocking

Post by Rushdenjim »

I will be interested to see if anyone can find meaningful positives from that because honestly it was shite. I’ve been saying for a long time that we are not good enough to go up and today proved it. Oadby were good not excellent, their number 10 tore us apart time and time again but their defence was as poor as ours but we didn’t test it enough. Their goalkeeper was carrying a slight knock and his floor kicking was poor, but we didn’t attack the pass backs enough. Lance Allen had an absolute shocker and the midfield was lacklustre at best. They couldn’t deal with the bumpy pitch and it cut up badly in the middle of the park, however Oadby played the same pitch and we are going to encounter a lot of bad pitches at this time of year. We actually started the better side and maybe should have scored through Newman (who was one of the better players) but their deserved a goal just as much as we did and they put their chances away. At 2-0 we gave up and it soon became 4-0. I was in total shock at how much space they had in the final third, 2 of their goals were tap ins because our defence were not within 10 yards of an Oadby man. We didn’t have a corner until 60 mins in and even then every set play failed to get passed the first man, Waste! After a while we ran out of ideas and it resulted it Chris Hope having shots from 25 yards! Talyor came on and looked bright. In the end the result was self inflicted and one that was coming for a while

The league table up to now was misleading we had not played anyone above us but once we’ve played Sileby twice, Bugbrooke and Oadby, we will be well off the pace and deservedly so with performances like that

Think we have to look at this season as finding our feet, as already said we're not good enough to go up. Really not looking forward to sileby in a few weeks at the mo!

I did have a slight worry going into the game after what had happened at Eynesbury that we might get hammered and found out by a team that clearly know where the goal is (49 goals in 14 games for Oadby now!), but didn't seriously think it was going to happen as we were able to hold our own and nearly beat Ashington, so yes shocking!

After the Eynesbury game we made a couple of signings in Allen and Gearing. The players we had all upped their performances and they've remained high since. For that reason I never thought today would happen in a million years.

I do wonder if we'll see some changes to the squad this week.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

Also a word on the management team. Apart from constantly f'ing at the Ref all day (For which they were warned within 30 mins today) what did they do to encourage the players or improve the situation? I heard/saw no really encouragement to the players and i think they also gave up at 2-0 with the players.

This is not the first time that the management team have had this criticism this season..... and I hope they are able to install confidence in the team, as whatever was said in the dressing room at half time obviously didn't work.

I chatted with a couple of their supporters and a parent of one of the players. They couldn't believe we were as poor a side as they watched today. They were concerned initially that Oadby would be a bit slow because they haven't played any football for a few weeks, and the pitch was heavy and wouldn't suit their style of play. What they said was that we were almost as sloppy as Raunds Town who they hammered 0-7. I thought we were not first to any ball in any area of the pitch and Oadby managed to defend better than we did, because we did manage to create a few chances. However, they cut through our team by supporting the front players, we got it up to our front players and then stood and watched the threat of any attack get snuffed out with ease. Then, on several occasions, we gave the ball straight back to Oadby, without being under any pressure. We need to be sharper all round and start to dominate games by keeping posession for longer periods. Let us begin our undefeated run on Tuesday night against R&H.

I was at the match today, yes it was dreadful, our players think they will turn up for a match and win with no effort. I think at the beginning of the season we attracted local players whose hearts were in the right place,. They wanted to play for AFC Rushden & Diamonds, unfortunately we are now signing players who come here because of the opportunity of playing in front of large crowds and have no real feeling for the club. I admit the club must move on, Lance Allen was terrible today his attitude was that he has no feeling for the club and we have many players who will give all for the club in the position that Lance occupies for the Diamonds, we have many alternatives, Wiz,Dent, Ellwood and best of all Ben Morgan. Ben was a loyal substitute for the early part of the season, he did not walk away from the club because he was not in the starting eleven. I preferred many of our early season players who gave all. Please give them another chance, I think they will succeed, yes we need another goalkeeper, given time our team at the start of the season would have been successful these players had a place for AFC in their hearts. The only good signing we have made since the start of the season is Jake Newman, I do not think we should sign players for the sake of it, many of these players are poorer than the players we already have. Yes they perform over one or two matches and on this forum you sing their praises and forget the players who have slipped down the pecking order.
