[ Sat 12th Oct ] v Dover Athletic, KO 3pm FACUP3Q AWAY
Re: [ Sat 12th Oct ] v Dover Athletic, KO 3pm FACUP3Q AWAY
Will Matt Gearing be available for this one? A player with his quality and experience at a higher level could be very useful to bring on in the second half and maybe he could grab us another one of his spectacular goals at the perfect time
Having had a look at Dover's squad, while they may not be having a particularly fantastic season, they're still quite a step up from Cambridge City and were in the playoffs last season I believe. Plenty of Conference Premier and FL experience in that squad (including one player who played for Millwall in the FA Cup final against Man Utd!) and a strikeforce that would be decent for any non league club with strikers like Modeste and Nathan Elder (ex Brighton, Brentford, AFC Wimbledon etc.). We can cause an upset of course like we did in the last round, but this time I can't deny, I'm certainly worried we may be very vulnerable in defence this time, City hardly threatened us in the second half perhaps partially because of complacency of going ahead at the break, but I thought towards the end of the first half, we were starting to struggle to deal with the quickness of their attack. Another early goal once again could be invaluable to put the pressure on the clear favourites.
Highlights of one of their recent games and I'd say WSM's 2nd may be as funny, if not funnier than our 3rd on Saturday

@UCLFanZone: FA Cup odds for Saturday
Dover Ath 2/5
Draw 5/1
AFCRD 5/1
If you fancy Diamonds that's a great price only 7/2 elsewhere.

That 2nd goal of wsm had me in tears, especially the slow motion replay
For the Cambridge match bet Victor offered higher, but they don't put the odds up till the day before so check Friday. Worth a punt, especially seeing the quality of their keeper

It looks like a foul on the keeper who was lucky to escape a very serious injury IMO.corby diamond wrote:That 2nd goal of wsm had me in tears, especially the slow motion replay

Ok when you look at it closer then maybe he could of been seriously injured by his fall but not a chance in my opinion can that be classed as a foul, their striker from the moment he slipped had his back to the goalkeeper so was unaware he was coming over the top. It was a genuine attempt to stand up from his slip which provided contact with the keeper, but as there was no intent surely has to be classed as unfortunateFormic wrote:It looks like a foul on the keeper who was lucky to escape a very serious injury IMO.corby diamond wrote:That 2nd goal of wsm had me in tears, especially the slow motion replay

I have watched a few of the Dover highlights and whilst they look quick from defence and midfield I have to say that their finishing is shocking. Confidence looks low in front of goal so hopefully this will continue Saturday and we take advantage of it. Going to be very hard but you never know.

Also noticed in their squad is Terrell Forbes, pretty sure he played for Yeovil in the fa cup against us and remember ranks bullying him all game, god him help him if he's against dunks!!
I also remember reading in the NLP Edinburgh tried to sign Nathan Elder but he opted to go to AFC Wimbledon

Just to put it on this thread too, there will be no Radio Diamonds at the game on Saturday.
