Hope we field a decent side this year. last season was embarrassing.
Re: Diamonds to play Hinckley AFC
Would think we will, as this is close to start of season, maybe 1 or 2 friendlies after this one, last year it was about the 2nd game and half the squad were away, and it`s not a 330 mile round trip and a full day away.sussexdiamond wrote:Hope we field a decent side this year. last season was embarrassing.

I think we need to start a "think before you post" campaign.sussexdiamond wrote:Hope we field a decent side this year. last season was embarrassing.
The club puts up a positive news story and the first response is a negative

I've seen a fair few comments alluding to this since our game last season, and I simply don't understand them. I genuinely find it baffling.sussexdiamond wrote:Hope we field a decent side this year. last season was embarrassing.
It was a pre-season friendly. It may have been the SD Shield, and therefore a nice set piece occasion and a chance to enjoy a 'proper away day' for a change, but it meant nothing in terms of result in the long run.
Like others, I traveled to the game, enjoyed the day, and wasn't concerned by seeing a side mixed with first teamers and youth teamers - this is generally what I expect in early pre-season outings. Would the money spent on travelling have suddenly been a better investment if I'd seen football starlets such as Dunkley or Taylor (I can't remember if either played, might also say something) or if we'd won 7-0 (which would have been nice, in that pre-season type of way)? It was never going to be a rational investment!
Pre-season is about familiarastion, fitness and building up performance levels - I did not feel anything negative about our squad at Widnes a year ago for a one-off friendly.
Hope the friendly with Hinckley goes well and creates some positive links for the future.

Absolutely. I wasn't aware of any of those of us who went to Widnes feeling "embarrassed". As the match report stated, the starting XI was made up almost entirely of first team squad members anyway, and those youngsters on the bench did well on the 3G surface when they were called into action. It was a chance to see how well some of the fringe players might perform - which is one of the key aims of PSFs.AndyKirkup wrote:I think we need to start a "think before you post" campaign.sussexdiamond wrote:Hope we field a decent side this year. last season was embarrassing.
