Bedford Town Ground?

Post by Dbsl »

Just arrived in to work in Ampthill to be greeted with chorus's that we will be sharing with Bedford Town next season. There was a large piece apparently in the local press over the weekend. We all know of course that until after Wednesday we don't know where we will be going but I for one had not heard Bedford being talked about amongst supporters to date. Not a bad venue to get to though.

As you say we know nothing officially until Wednesday but of the educated guesses being made over the past few months Bedford has of course been mentioned, given we all assume our Board has been in conversation/negotiations with a few Clubs who's grounds may be an option and up to or able to be made ready to the required standard and nothing has been leaked by them, maybe the article says something about what maybe one of our options as a landlord. It's only 2 days to wait till all will be revealed.

As Brownie says Bedford has always been mooted as an option....along with Corby, St Neots, Kempston, Hayden Road, Raunds, Sileby, , Cogenhoe,. ....In fact any ground within a 20 mile radius of Rushden.

Be patient a little longer all will be revealed very soon now, and then we can consider the facts and make an informed decision.

I know where I would like us to go, but that is based on my home geographical location rather than anything else!

Throw in Daventry and Desborough as well.

Of the teams mentioned I would say Raunds, Cogenhoe and Desborough are highly unlikely due to having successful reserve teams that are a big part of their respective clubs.

Sileby is another unlikely one as I'm pretty sure they don't even like their own team playing on that pitch let alone anyone else. Daventry fits the bill in many ways but is probably just a little too far and inconvenient.

This leaves Bedford, Kempston, St. Neots, Corby and Rushden & Higham.

Of those clubs I would say St. Neots probably the same as Daventry, Corby slightly more realistic than that Imo. Bedford look like they're pretty desperate for us to be over there if it's already in their press and you know it isn't our club that leaked that. Kempston is a decent set up and pitch but really not sure how our fan base would react to it. If and it's a reasonably big if Hayden road can be brought up to standard then if it is an option it's pretty much the only one where we could progress as a club.

Obviously this is all my opinion and we'll find out the answers we're looking for on Wednesday, massive night for our club and I for one am looking forward to it.

I have rather assumed that the options we''ll be presented with will be 3 from the following - Daventry, Corby, St Neots, Bedford and Kempston. I think Daventry is too far the wrong way personally, at least if it were to be Bedford we could say that a half decent % of our fanbase are associated with that area. Kempston and Daventry may have issues accomodating Step 3 football - a problem we could immediately inherit (preferably avoid all together).
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

A I think it's sad we've leaving Wellingborough, I would like to stay there.

I think it's between, Sileby, Corby, Cogenhoe, Bedford, Kempston, Daventry, St Neots, (don't think I've missed anybody out) I think they all have good bits (bad bits about them)

Need to think about how to attract fans/more fans through the turnstiles, (Maybe a Northampton club or Bedford club would be good)

We will soon find out on Wednesday.

i personaly think a best option would be to take a step backwards(contraversial i know),,,my reasoning is___as proven by a high attendace---is to try and share with rushden and higham,,,,if we shoehorn our way in then we can be part of whatever scheme the council have when they move the football club and cricket club in the future

Pretty sure Rushden and Higham ground isn't up to scratch, and it will cost the club a lot of money to get the ground up to scratch.
