Better record than our Champions????

Post by Pigman »

Back in December 2000 when we lost away to Dover 4-1, everyone wanted Talbot's head on a plate !!

His side went on to win the title in style with a fantastic run of results. Having lost to Dover on the 2nd December they went on to win 14, draw 7 and lose just 1 game (a poor performance at Hereford where even the goal we scored was an OG).

Now, since we lost to FGR on 5th December we've gone on a fantastic run as well, currently won 11, drawn 4 and lost 1. Can this side, with 6 games remaining, beat our Champions record?

One record they can't beat is that our Champions went 16 games undefeated in that run. Because of the timing of the Oxford defeat (damn you Mr Creighton) the most this team can get is 14 games unbeaten if we manage to remain so in our last 6 games.

Can they do it?

Yes but it will mean even more to win the first 3 games in the football league to break the record ;)

Nah, remember there are at most three games that could be tagged onto the end of this season which means if we were to break it this year, it would be at Wembley!

Here's a list of teams and the total points they could get if they won all their games (not taking into account matches against each other);-

Stevenage.102
Luton........94
Oxford......94
R & D .......88
York.........86
AFCW.......79
Mansfield...76
Crawley.....76
Kettrin......75
Kiddy........75

So, looking at that we need to get to 80 points to be mathematically certain of a play-off spot. In reality we probably need 6 points.
