3-2 now unfortunately after a rebound from a penalty and yes, against a team 2 levels above its been good, we've certainly matched them throughout the match.
Edit: to Stamford

Trialist keeper looked very young (and small). Made a cracking penalty save.
Anyway, thought we were excellent. Lacking ideas up top until Koriya moved up to partner Dunkley, and the former was taking the piss frankly. Hell of a player.

Sounds good, Koriya's looking like a great signing already.

He was the keeper that played with Sam Brown when AFC Kempston Rovers got promotion from the UCL DIv 1 a few seasons ago.BartonRaz wrote:Trialist keeper looked very young (and small). Made a cracking penalty save.
I thought we played Stamford off the park in the second half during the period when we scored our two goals. Later substitutions allowed Stamford back in the game but against a Step 3 team our performance tonight bodes very well for our chances in the UCL Premier division this season. Team is really starting to gel and a vast improvement on last Thursday's performance.

Rather than just eulogising about Koriya (even though i'm buzzing off my swede about watching him every week this season) I should probably give a more balanced assessment for those that weren't able to attend.
We started slowly but grew into the game. McBride at left-back got caught out on a few occasions but got to grips with the role pretty swiftly and we were winning the midfield battle for a large period of the half without creating anything meaningful. Alfie's still looking off the pace. Ex-Corby striker Jordan Smith nicked a goal for Stamford and we went in 1 behind.
For the first 10-15 minutes of the second half we weren't really in it, until (as I've mentioned) Koriya moved up front and Wisniewski came on. We were dominant for the next 20 minutes or so, Koriya running and chasing everything, ridiculous first touch and skills setting things up for others. We could and maybe should have got more than the 2 we did get (the first of which was an excellent lob). As it was we lost against a strong Stamford side that included Jon Challinor but plenty of positives to take. I thought Jamal Clarke had a very good game.
